Four Covid-19 patients, including 38-year-old, die as 158 cases are found

Four people have died while positive for Covid-19, while health authorities reported 158 new cases of the virus.

Authorities said on Sunday that an 87-year-old woman and three men aged 38, 82, and 90 respectively had died while positive for Covid-19.  569 people have now died in Malta while positive for the virus.

The 38-year-old man is the second youngest victim of the pandemic in Malta.  A 35-year-old woman who died on 1 October last year remains the youngest, while another 38-year-old man passed away while positive for Covid on 11 March 2021.

22 deaths related to the pandemic have been registered in the last week, making this the third highest week for deaths in the pandemic.

The week between 16 and 22 January 2022, when 26 people died,  remains the highest.

316 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, taking the number of active cases down to 2,393.

84 patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, with five of those in intensive care.

1,221,565 doses of the vaccine have been administered thus far, with 334,132 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 68,938 cases of the virus so far.  65,540 of those have recovered, while 569 have died.
