A light aircraft was forced into an emergency landing on Malta International Airport’s main runway this afternoon.
Malta International Airport said in a statement that its Rescue and Firefighting Services Team was dispatched to the scene immediately.
The incident took place at 2.32pm, MIA said.
The one crew member on board the aircraft sustained no injuries.
The airport's runways were closed for more than two hours.
In a second statement just before 5pm,Malta International Airport said that normal operations have now resumed.
MIA thanked the team and all the relevant stakeholders for their contribution in bringing airport operations back to normal swiftly.
An investigation into what caused the accident is underway.
