A man died on Saturday in hospital after he fell down a staircase the night before, the police said.

The accident took place in a residence in Qasam Street, Swieqi, at 8.30pm.

The man, aged 87, was taken to hospital with serious injuries on Friday.

On Saturday, the police said that the man had died of the injuries sustained.

Magistrate Monica Vella is leading an inquiry.
