Active cases now below 1,000 as 79 new Covid-19 cases are reported

79 new Covid-19 cases were reported by health authorities on Friday, as the number of active cases dipped below the 1,000 mark.

No new deaths as a result of the virus were reported for the second day running.

288 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, taking the number of active cases down to 988.

It is the first time since 24 November that the number of active cases has been below 1,000.

46 patients meanwhile are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, with four of those being in intensive care.

1,234,688 doses of the vaccine have been administered thus far, with 339,653 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 70,454 cases of the virus. 68,436 of those have recovered, while 594 have died.
