Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the scrapping of the Marsascala marina project is not a vote of no confidence in Minister Ian Borg, who was defending the project until last week.

On Tuesday, Abela said that the government was cancelling the plans for the project after it listened to what the residents were saying.

Until last week, Borg was vehemently defending the idea to have a marina at Marsascala, in spite of repeated protests by the residents as well as a number of NGOs.

Asked whether the scrapping of the project was a vote of no confidence in the minister, Abela said that this is not so.

Borg has worked well on many mega-projects, Abela said.

On this particular subject, Abela said Borg was part of the discussion process about the idea of the marina, which the government has now pushed aside.

Abela said that the scrapping of the project is not because the election is in a few weeks’ time. He said that the idea has been scrapped once and for all.
