The Community Policing service was extended to all of Gozo and seven localities in Malta over the past two years, a government statement read.

The locations in Malta are Santa Lucija, Paola, St Paul's Bay, Lija, Iklin, Attard and Balzan. "This means that this service is operating in 63% of all towns and villages in the country."

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that Community Policing is resulting in a more proactive police force, one that is closed to the people.

"We want our country to have safe communities, and through Community Policing this is being sustained," he said. Camilleri said that the government will continue to invest in the Police Force in order "to keep Malta one of the safest countries in the world."

President of the Local Councils Association Mario Fava said that this service was well received by the localities it is currently used in. "The police are better understanding the unique realities in the different localities."

Community Policing will continue to be extended to encompass all of Malta by 2023.
