The country needs to start a discussion on the subject of euthanasia, said Prime Minister Robert Abela on Tuesday.

Abela said as much on Tuesday after being asked by journalists whether such an issue would be mentioned in the PL’s general election manifesto, which is due to be launched on Friday.

Speaking about the proposed IVF legal amendments he said that a Labour government would legislate in order to “incentivise and not suffocate” couples through unjustified limitations to who can take advantage of IVF and who cannot.

Asked about the Ukrainian war and concerns about the shortage of cereal products, Abela said that there are several other sectors which have been impacted by the tensions which this reality has caused. He added that in these circumstances it is important to have a government that is focused.

Abela said that he was informed on Tuesday morning by a gas importer that they are finding difficulties to source LPG gas, adding that these are “the realities that are being brought about” because of the Ukrainian situation.

Regarding the Ukrainian war and the problems that have emerged with it, Abela added that on Tuesday morning the government had an informal meeting with the European Council President together with several leaders in preparation for an informal council meeting to take place on the 10 and 11 of March in France.

“These are realities that are being experienced all over Europe and the rest of the world, and that is why the government needs to stay focused so that in such realities we continue to protect the nation, whilst also guaranteeing that we will maintain the same energy and fuel prices stable”, he said.

Asked about why he has not accepted any debate invites by independent media, he said that he has been answering questions on many subjects, some answers which he has repeated many times. He also reminded that this week he will be participating in a debate together with PN leader Bernard Grech.
