A PL government does not truly care about educators, persons who want to make use of IVF services nor about the sport sector but is only addressing these issues because the election is round the corner, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said at a political event in Senglea on Wednesday.

Grech said that the PL only presents proposals out of convenience and not with conviction, adding that this is not how politics should be done. Addressing educators, Grech said that the education sector will receive the incentives it deserves, he said.

“Educators deserve better pay and the respect that they deserve for helping and forming our children into better citizens,” Grech said.

He said that homework should not be eliminated, as the PL is proposing, but should be reduced and used as a tool for development and not to overbear students so that they have something to do. Grech reiterated the proposals of the 25% increase on all maintenance grants as well as €500 given to students to experience studying abroad including in the sectors of culture, technology, and sport.

Regarding IVF procedures, Grech said that the PL is lying incessantly about the true nature of IVF medicine fees. He said that many couples have revealed that it is not true that these are free, and under a PN government, all IVF services and medicine will be free for couples who want to become parents.

Grech also said that one of the biggest problems the country has is that there is no fixed consultant for couple who make use of IVF, but rather one is brought from abroad.

He pledged that the PN will do its utmost so that Malta has a fixed consultant for IVF services. Grech also said that if needed, laws for bringing embryos from abroad will be changed. Costs for Maltese couples who would like to make use of IVF services abroad will also be covered.

Grech said that the PL shows discrimination against the sport sector, saying that athletes cannot carry out certain training in Malta. He regarded the sport sector as not only one which creates jobs, but also changes the country’s culture and quality of life, also addressing Malta’s obesity problem.

He said that under a PN government there will be the allocation of a Minister for Sport, and new sport centres will be opened. Grech also said that the Ħal Far racetrack will be completed under a PN government, as the PL has failed to do so.
