Active Covid-19 cases back over 1,000 as two more patients pass away

The number of active cases of Covid-19 has spiked over the 1,000 mark again, as two more patients have passed away while positive for the virus.

Health authorities said that two men aged 90 years old and 80 years old respectively had died while Covid-19 positive.

138 new cases of the virus were reported by health authorities, with 84 new recoveries being reported – meaning that the number of active cases is now up to 1,002.

35 patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, with four of those in intensive care.

1,247,286 doses of the vaccine had been administered up until Tuesday, with 345,398 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 72,201 cases of the virus. 70,176 of those have recovered, while 612 have died.
