‘Not realising Malta’s democracy is in danger would be a mistake’ - Grech

It would be a mistake not to realise that the country's democracy is once again in danger under a PL government, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said, calling for a change in administration.

Addressing a large crowd in the PN's final rally at St George's Square in Valletta, Grech said that Malta is once again at a crossroads, promoting the PN as a party that truly wants the best for the country's citizens.

"Prime Minister Robert Abela has brought the country shame, we are in a situation which does not reflect the true reputation we want for Malta," Grech said. He said that Abela's behaviour shows that he is panicked, "when he should be comfortable and serene, according to the polls," he said.

"Abela is crumbling under the pressure, shown through the provision of cheques a week before the election, refusing to attend to four debates, not giving a single interview to journalists," Grech said, adding that Abela only thinks about himself.

Grech said that during these past years, there was a total collapse of the country's institutions. He also accused the Prime Minister of 'throwing away' the Maltese language, following the news that the requirements for entry to Junior College will no longer require a pass in Maltese, Maths and English O Levels.

He said that the only positive news that came out during the PL legislature in terms of Malta in Europe, was the appointment of fellow Nationalist and President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.

"This Saturday, the public will decide between giving more power to Abela or strengthen the voices of those who want a better future for our nation," Grech said. He accused Abela of wanting more power than he already has, as he "uses taxpayer's money and the power he has to continue to indulge himself," he said.

Grech condemned Abela for the way he has been holding his political rallies, describing them as luxurious. "He has also yet to publish the party's bills and costings for these activities," Grech said, adding that the PL has been doing its utmost to 'buy' votes for the upcoming election.

"This is a crucial election, the PN continued to move forward despite all obstacles," Grech said. He appealed for the public to vote for all PN candidates.

Grech remarked that the PN has always proven its seriousness through its vision for the country. "We have always kept to our word," he said.
