The ‘movement’ won again – Joseph Muscat

Sunday, 27 March 2022, 16:03 Last update: about 3 years ago

Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said Sunday that the “movement we gave birth to” is not only alive but is stronger than ever.

In a post on Facebook, Muscat said that “what we did was not for political convenience but a political, social and economic project that changed Malta and will continue to change it”.

Muscat, who resigned in 2020 after his office was linked with the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, said that the people had once again rejected negativity.

He said however that the Labour Party must analyse the reasons why so many people did not vote. The party should not rely on some media who do not know what the people are thinking.

He said he had no advice for the PN. He said that the last electoral victory for the PN in normal circumstances was the one of 1992. The 1998 election was premature, while the one of 2003 was a decision on European Union membership. In 2008, the PN with a relative majority of half a seat.

Since 2009, the PL consistently obtained a majority of 55% against the PN’s 43%.

If the PN maintains the same recipe, it will come up with the same result, and this is not good news for the country that needs a serious debate on alternative politics.

The Labour government must be humble, and the future is full of challenges that need unity, skill and courage to overcome.
