A woman is at risk of dying after she was involved in an early morning traffic accident on Friday.

Police said that they were informed of a traffic accident in Triq in-Naxxar in Gharghur at 6am.

Preliminary investigations showed that the accident took place between a Mercedes C220 being drive by a 23-year-old Nigerian who lives in Swieqi who had a 24-year-old woman from Naxxar as a passenger, and a Mercedes SLK250 which was being driven by a 28-year-old woman from Iklin.

A medical team was called on site, and the 24-year-old and the Nigerian were taken by ambulance to Mater Dei.

The woman was later certified as suffering from serious injuries, while the police later said that the Nigerian had suffered grievous injuries.

Duty magistrate Elaine Mercieca is leading a magisterial inquiry, while police investigations are still ongoing.
