An elderly woman has died after balustrades forming the balcony of her home gave way on Monday evening.

The tragedy happened at around 7pm in Triq is-Sebh in Birzebbuga, the police said.

The 75-year-old woman was washing her balcony at the time the balustrades collapsed.

She fell a height of one storey and was pronounced dead on site.

A magisterial inquiry is underway.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke is leading an inquiry.
