The Nationalist Party will have a new deputy leader as incumbent Robert Arrigo will not seek to be reappointed to the post.

Arrigo told the party’s media Tuesday that his term expires when the party convenes the general council as it is bound to do after an election.

Arrigo, who has served in the role for five years, said that he will not seek to be reappointed.

The PN’s other deputy leader is David Agius.

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has given indications that he intends to seek to be confirmed as leader.

Arrigo, 67, said that it is time for him to move on. He thanked all people who had voted for him, electing him from two districts.

After the PN lost the election, Arrigo had pleaded for Roberta Metsola, president of the European Parliament, to help the party.

He said that the election result was extremely disappointing to him, as the party lost the third election in a row.
