Autopsy reveals man found in boot of car in Qormi was stabbed to death

The autopsy on the body which was found in the boot of the car in Hal Qormi on Tuesday resulted that the victim was stabbed to death in his chest.

The body was found after reports to the authorities of a strong foul smell emerging from the car. The victim’s head was covered with clothing and was seen to be covered by a bloodied sheet down to his waist.

Police officials released a statement today that investigators are awaiting the outcome of DNA tests to confirm the victim’s identity.

The body was found in the car which was being used by 62-year-old man Mario Farrugia from Pembroke, who was reported missing last week having been last seen on 28 March near his residence.

The police had said Farrugia made use of a grey Peugeot 407 with the registration plate BGY074 – the same car which the body was found it.

The body was found in an advanced state of decomposition and the victim is yet to be identified.

Police are appealing to anyone who has any information regarding the case which could help in the investigation of the homicide, can call on the numbers 21224001/119.

Police investigations by the Major Crimes Unit, and the Magisterial Inquiry led by Magistrate Gabriella Vella are still ongoing.
