Two women and a child were injured in a traffic accident on the Regional Road, close to the tunnels in St Julian's, on Thursday morning.

The police said that the accident took place at around 7.45am.

It involved two cars, a Toyota Yaris driven by a 57-year-old woman of St Paul's Bay, and a Toyota Vitz, driven by a 48-year-old woman resident in Birzebbuga, who had a 12-year-old girl riding as a passenger.

The 57-year-old suffered grievous injuries while the other two were slightly hurt.

The accident led to a massive traffic jam in the area, as the northbounds lanes on the Regional Road were closed off next to the Paceville traffic lights system.

This led to a massive traffic congestion all the way back to Pembroke.
