Easter can only be understood from the heart as ‘it defies logic’ - Archbishop Scicluna

Easter can only be understood through the heart because it “is a dilemma and an enigma to the mind: it defies logic,” said Archbishop Charles Scicluna during the Sermon he delivered at St John’s Co-Cathedral on Easter Sunday.

The gospel quoted and referenced during the mass was, as is tradition, that of John, which recounts how the tomb of Jesus Christ was found empty by the women who went there to apply ointment to his body.

Amongst these women was Mary Magdalene.

The archbishop explained how at the time, the disciples did not understand that Christ had to rise from the dead. He explained to the present mass how although Jesus was present amongst them, disciples weren’t witnesses to any “any victorious moment, as one might imagine.”

Scicluna, explained how it was the heart that was leading Mary Magdalene to the disciples and Peter, as all three of them had witnessed Christ’s death and his body being placed in a tomb, and had later on discovered that in fact he had risen.

The Archbishop urged the many celebrating Easter, to ask the Lord to enlighten their lives “with his peace and Joy” in their prayers.
