A man has been charged with threatening civil society activist Manuel Delia.

Edward Attard was charged with insulting and threatening Delia and causing him to fear that violence will be used against him.

In a report he had filed with the police, Delia had said that on 19 February, he was driving a car accompanied by his family. He was waiting to exit onto Triq Mgarr, and the cars trying to exit that road onto his road were having difficulty due to a badly parked car.

One of the drivers indicated to Delia to move a bit to make some space, but Delia said he couldn't as he was too close to the car in front.

Eventually the driver managed to come close, and after recognising Delia, began insulting him, the blogger had told the police.

The man claimed to be a Labourite, Delia said. He said that the two cars had the chance to move and the man did not finish his discourse.

Delia said a few minutes later he received a call from a mobile number. Without telling Delia who it was, the man continued insulting and intimidating him over the phone.

The premise of the insults, Delia told the police, was that he had to spend less than ten seconds to enter into the road, but his discourse when he called was that he hated him (Delia) as Delia is a journalist "fed up" with his government.

In a sitting on Tuesday, Attard was assigned a legal aid lawyer. Both Delia and his wife testified. The prosecution's case was closed and the case was deferred to 4 July.
