In a brief message addressed to Archbishop Charles Scicluna, Pope Francis thanked Malta for the commitment that was exhibited during the preparations for his visit in April.
"I greet the priests, the Catholic people in Malta and the laity who worked together," Pope Francis said.
Pope Francis arrived in Malta on Saturday 2 April for a two-day visit that had been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Thank you for your warm welcome, hospitality and generosity. I cherish your humanity and your humor, as well as the love you have shown me in these joyful days. I hope that the Lord will give you the gift of vocations and reward you for the loving care you give to older priests," Pope Francis.
He said that he will keep everyone in his prayers, and asked everyone else to do the same.
"May the Lord Jesus bless you and the Blessed Virgin look after you and the people who have been entrusted with your pastoral care," Pope Francis said.
