Updated: Teacher’s bottle allegedly spiked with chemical

A teacher's water bottle at the San Ġorġ Preca College secondary school in Ħamrun was allegedly spiked with a chemical, LovinMalta reports.

It reported that a teacher allegedly foamed at the mouth and vomited. LovinMalta reported that the incident occurred on Monday when the teacher drank from a water bottle.

An Education Ministry spokesperson has confirmed that a report was filed with the police by an educator, but did not confirm or deny any of the reported details.

The Malta Union of Teachers condemned the incident and expressed support to the educator involved. The MUT said it is informed about the case and has already been communicating with the respective educator, who was victim of this incident, with the school and with the Ministry of Education.
The MUT requested that all required action is taken to ensure that the culprit involved is identified. It also provided all the support needed to the affected educator and all school personnel.
The MUT said it is informed that proposed actions have already been initiated by the school and the Ministry. Meanwhile the union is in constant communication with the affected educators about the case.

The educator involved, who is an MUT member, is luckily in good health,, the MUT said, and has expressed appreciation for the way the case was tackled by the school and the MUT.
