Mosta will be playing once again in the Premier League next season when they gained a much important win over Valletta. Three points which they needed in order to be mathemically safe and sound.

After losing to Sliema in the first match from the Play-Out final round, Mosta bounced back with an impressive win over Balzan by a 3-2 scoreline  before saving a point in the last minute in a 1-1 draw against Santa Lucia in their last outing.

Valletta went into this match undefeated in their last six matches. In the Play Out Round they defeated Sirens and Sliema and were held by Balzan in a 1-1.

The Citizens defeated Mosta 3-1 in the first round and in the second round clash between the two sides the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Valletta were the first to venture forward and on 11 minutes Caio Prado played the ball towards Mario Fontanella but the latters shot was turned onto a corner by Akpan.

Two minutes later Mosta forged ahead. Off a Failla free kick Rafael Morisco’s header found the corner of the net.

Valletta responded on 15 minutes when Andrea Zammit set Fontanella whose shot just missed the target. Mosta increased their lead ten minutes later through a solo effort by Edwin Acheamong whose final shot beat Guarnone.

And just before the break they practically made sure of the vital win when off a Clayton Failla low cross in came Christ Ememe and his low drive gave the Valletta goalkeeper no chance at all.

The second half started with Valletta trying to come back into the picture and in the 53rd minute Andrea Zammit played the ball towards Mario Fontanella only for  his shot to end well over the bar.

But four minutes later Valletta reduced the arrears. It materialized through a cross from the right by the active Zammit with a Promise shot hitting the woodwork and from the reboung Mario Fontanella slotted the ball home.

In the 66th minute two successive shots by Zammit and Fontanella were both blocked by Akpan.

Eight minutes from the end of the match Valletta scored their second goal when after a Fontanella shot hit the post Haris Dilaver was on hand to convert with ease.
