Floriana and Gudja cross swords in the last match of their campaign. A match which both sides had nothing to play for. Floriana certain of second placing and European football come next season and Gudja holding on to sixth place in the Top Six and thus will be amongst the elite for another season.

For Floriana this was also a preparation match for next week’s much important encounter, their semi final of the Izibiet FA Trophy against Champions Hibernians.

It was the Greens who went near on 8 minutes when a Paiber shot from the edge of the area sailed just over the bar. Gudja responded through a double effort by Tabone whose consecutive shots were saved by goalkeeper Bartolo.

Floriana took the lead in the 25th minute with Hovsepyan finding Keqi whose shot from just inside the area beat Zammit. And they also went near seven minutes from the break through a Paiber free kick which was saved by Zammit with the help of the crossbar.

On the change of ends Floriana doubled the score in the 52nd minute when off a Magri Overend cross from the right side in came Veselji who slotted the ball home.

Twenty minutes from the end a Paiber free kick was blocked by the Gudja rearguard and from the rebound a Magri Overend shot was saved with some difficulty by goalkeeper Zammit.

Two minutes in added time Gudja reduced the gap through Cremona whose shot from outside the area beat substitute goalkeeper Portelli.
