The Church in Malta collected €358,366 for the benefit of the people in Ukraine, a Caritas Malta statement read.

"This is one of the initiatives the Church in Malta took to help the Ukrainian people. This fund raising campaign was led by Caritas Malta, on request by the Maltese and Gozitan Bishops. The donations were given by parishes, individuals, schools, companies and private entities. The money collected will be given to Caritas Internationalis, that will take care of offering the support needed, including food, medicine and sanitary items."

Presently, Caritas Internationalis is aiding the people in Ukraine but also the refugees in Poland, Moldova and Romania, through the local Caritas organisations, the statement read.

Over the past ten weeks, more than 12 million people fled Ukraine to find a safer place.
