A pillion rider was critically injured after the bike she was riding on was involved in a collision in Mosta on Thursday evening.

The accident took place in Independence Avenue at 11.30pm.

It involved a BMW 120D driven by a 28-year-old woman of Gzira, and Peugeot Tweet.

The rider of the biker, a 29-year-old man of Mgarr, had a 26-year-old woman, also of Mgarr, riding with him.

The woman was critically injured while the rider was grievously hurt.

Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace is leading an inquiry.
