Is summer here? Temperature to hit 30 degrees next week

Thursday, 19 May 2022, 11:19 Last update: about 3 years ago

The temperature is set to hit and exceed 30 degrees for the first time in 2022 next week, as summer draws ever nearer.

Forecasts by the popular social media page Maltese Islands Weather show that sunny weather will persist for the foreseeable future.

While the temperature over the weekend will be between 26 and 27 degrees, this will increase to 29 degrees by Monday, and then to 31 and 32 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Little to no wind is expected on both Tuesday and Wednesday, making the real feel a couple of degrees warmer as well.

It’s the first time this year that the temperature will exceed the 30 degree mark, as summer approaches.

It also comes on the back of a somewhat strange-feeling spring season: a season characterised more by cloudy and windy days than the usual warm sunnier days.

The high temperatures come as western Europe is set to experience its first heat wave of the year as well.  Spain will bear the brunt of this, but the hot weather front will affect Malta as well.

The sea around Malta will also warm up significantly, causing the amount of jellyfish in local waters to decrease rapidly, Maltese Islands Weather said in its report on Thursday morning.
