Drivers wanting to make their way to St Julian’s and Sliema from San Gwann faced a long detour as both roads leading to the two localities were closed to traffic at the same time.

The lower part of Birkirkara Hill (right in the photo), which leads to central St Julian’s, has been closed to traffic for at least a week as road works are taking place. It remains closed.

This morning, Birkirkara Road (left in the photo), which leads to Sliema as well as the Balluta area, was also closed for a time. It has now been reopened.

Drivers coming down from San Gwann were for a time being turned back the way they came to find an alternative way to make it to their destination.
