Wednesday, 1 June 2022, 12:15 Last update: about 3 years ago

Seven people were arrested in two operations carried out by the Police’s anti-drugs unit between Monday and Tuesday.

The seven were apprehended in Hamrun and Tal-Qroqq after a considerable amount of cocaine was found, packaged in such a manner that they were ready to be trafficked.

In the Tal-Qroqq location, police a 53-year-old man was arrested after his car was followed to Triq Maria Teresa Spinelli, where he was subsequently arrested and where a number of sachets of cocaine were found on his person.

The second operation saw six people between the ages of 20 and 53 years – three of whom were men, and three were women – arrested in an apartment in Triq Manuel Magri in Hamrun. A considerable amount of cocaine, some of which was packaged and some of which was in the process of being cut for trafficking, was found in the apartment.

All money found at both locations was confiscated and Duty Magistrate Elaine Mercieca opened a magisterial inquiry into the matter.

The police are expected to arraign two of the suspects in court on Wednesday afternoon before Duty Magistrate Noel Bartolo while investigations into the other five are ongoing.
