Planning Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi has not yet selected a new nominee for the post of chairman of the Planning Authority.

Anthony Borg, who was the government's nominee to become the new chairman of the Planning Authority, had admitted to Parliament's appointments committee that he was, around 12 years ago, offered a bribe by a police officer and that he refused it, but he had not reported it. The government withdrew his nomination when this emerged.

Asked by sections of the press what steps he took against Borg, the minister said that he took steps on Wednesday when he withdrew his nomination. Asked whether he thinks these steps were taken late, and if he knew about the case before hand, he said: "I, at the opportune moment, took the decisions I needed to take."

Asked if he knew about the case before hand, he said that he took decisions when he had to take them and on Wednesday, that is why he withdrew the nomination. Pressed again on the matter, he said "I can assure you that I took the decision at the opportune moment."
