Serb leaves four police officers with light injuries after arrest over fight last February

A Serbian man was arrested on Sunday in connection with a fight which happened in Marsascala last February, which left a man with grievous injuries.

The Serb – a 33-year-old – was arrested following joint investigations by the Bormla District police and by the Rapid Intervention Unit at an establishment in Triq ix-Xatt in Gzira.

The man was wanted in connection with a fight which broke out on 17 February earlier this year in an establishment in Triq ix-Xatt in Marsascala.  In this fight, a 29-year-old man who lives in Marsascala was left with grievous injuries and the aggressor escaped the scene.

Fast forward to Sunday, when the Serb noticed the presence of the police at the establishment, he tried to escape.

He was however arrested, but soon became aggressive towards police, leaving four officers having to be treated at Mater Dei Hospital for light injuries.

The man is being kept at the Police headquarters in Floriana under arrest while investigations continue.
