‘Shameful’ – Jason Micallef attacks PA for Xaghra pool permit

Wednesday, 15 June 2022, 06:08 Last update: about 3 years ago

For the second time in a week, the head of the Labour Party’s media and chairman of the Valletta agency Jason Micallef has turned the guns against the country's authorities, saying it is shameful that permits such as those issued for a pool in Xaghra are given.

Last week, the outspoken Micallef had criticised the situation at Blue Lagoon after activists had turned up to protest against having deckchairs lined up on the sand. This protest ultimately led to the government banning such a practice.

Now Micallef has again lambasted the Planning Authority for issuing a permit for a pool to be constructed in Xaghra valley. Construction tycoon Joseph Portelli was given the go ahead despite a deluge of complaints.

Not in my name, Micallef wrote on Facebook.

“I have militated in the PL, and occupied several roles, for many years. I have loved the PL and will continue to love it till my last breath. But these stories irritate me, and irritate Labourites of goodwill,” he wrote.

The PL is not elected to government to approve such obscenities. How could the PA approve the destruction of a valley to “accommodate a developer who has sworn, among other things, to destroy Gozo”? Is this why the PA was set up? How can you not be ashamed? Or have you stopped being ashamed?

Whoever was responsible for this will have to answer for their actions. “You know who you are. Shameful”.
