Alex Perici Calascione is the sole contender for the Nationalist Party leadership post.

A statement by the PN said that he was the only official to submit an expression of interest in the position.

The call for applications ended at noon.

The PN’s electoral commission will request a due diligence exercise from the Candidates Commission before the official nomination process starts.

The PN will have only one deputy leader following changes to the stature in 2019, which brought to an end changes made under than leader Simon Busuttil for the party to have two deputy leaders.

Perici Calascione had unsuccessfuly contested for the PN leadership in 2017.

Outgoing deputy leaders Robert Arrigo and David Agius did not submit their name for the due diligence exercise.
