A total of 13,015 over speeding contraventions were issued between the period of June 2021 and May 2022 in the Coast Road area in Naxxar, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri revealed.

PN MP Claudette Buttigieg made a parliamentary question to Camilleri on the amount of speed cameras installed on the Coast Road, including in the zone of Kennedy Drive, Tul il-Kosta and Triq Sant’Indrija. Buttigieg also asked which speed cameras were installed recently, where they were installed, as well as how many contraventions were issued due to excessive speeding.

Camilleri said that five speed cameras are installed in the Coast Road, three in the northbound of Malta, and two in the southbound. The most recent northbound speed cameras were installed near the Splash and Fun Park in June 2021, and near Torri tal-Għallis in June 2021.

The two southbound speed cameras were installed recently in May 2022, one between the Salini Resort and Torri tal-Għallis, and one near the Magħtab area.

In May 2022, a total of 2,004 contraventions were issued. From the two new speed cameras, SB1: Salini - San Pawl to Pembroke issued 274 contraventions, whilst the SB2: Magħtab - San Pawl to Pembroke issued 1,107 contraventions.
