A 45-year-old man was remanded in custody after being charged in court with corrupting his niece, who is a minor, and for subjecting her to physical intimacy.

The prosecution explained that the report to the Police against the uncle was made by the minor and her mother, after the man spoke to the girl in a way that was considered to be of a sexual nature.

In court, presided over by Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras, it was said that the girl was spoken to by the Police, and it turned out that her uncle even showed her sexual acts.

The defense asked for the release of the accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The request, however, was objected to by the prosecution, which said other minors still need to testify.

The lawyers also objected to the chronology of events as presented by the Attorney General, also pointed that some time had passed between the alleged crime and the arrest.

The request for bail was denied.
