A number of Santa Venera and Birkirkara residents have been without electricity for over 12 hours after a series of faults in the distribution system.

In a social media post, Enemalta said a fault developed on an 11kV underground cable on Monday evening in Birkirkara/St Venera. Supply was shortly restored by switching affected customers to an alternative source.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, a second fault developed on the alternative source. Excavation works were carried out through the night so that our technical team may carry out the neccessary repairs to resolve this issue.

In the meantime, where possible, another team is working on connecting substations to generators, in order to restore electricity supply as soon as possible, it said.

While we apologise for any inconvenience caused, we understand that not having electricity supply is frustrating. Our technical team which worked tirelessly through the night is doing its utmost to resolve this issue and restore electricity supply as soon as possible,” Enemalta said.

Meanwhile, residents who reached out to this newsroom asked who would be paying for the damage caused by the power outage.
