The motion was proposed by Opposition MPs from the 1st District and was rejected with 38 votes against and 31 in favour after government MPs toed the party line.

Government has defended the legal notice, saying that the level of music played in these establishments must remain ‘moderate’ and that the rules will be enforced.

None of the Labour MPs on the first district spoke in the debate on the motion which was held in Parliament on Monday.
