Carm Mifsud Bonnici says he would have voted against IVF bill

Thursday, 7 July 2022, 12:55 Last update: about 3 years ago

Nationalist MP Carm Mifsud Bonnici said he would have voted against the IVF bill, but he was unable to be in Parliament on Wednesday because he is positive to Covid-19.

He becomes the fourth PN MP to express his dissent towards the bill. On Tuesday, Adrian Delia, Alex Borg and Ivan Bartolo voted against, while the rest of the PN MPs present in the House voted with the government.

In a post on Facebook, Mifsud Bonnici said he wanted to join those who voted against the bill. “These amendments are not pro-life,” he said. “These are amendments that permit testing on life which will then allow a decision to be made on who will be born and who will not, and who will therefore be placed in a freezer for eternity.”

He said that, for this reason, he had chosen to be listed as absent, not excused, from Wednesday's sitting. In this way, he wanted to make it clear that he was against the bill.
