The General Workers’ Union (GWU) has temporarily suspended the wardens’ industrial action after a “much more advantageous financial package” was offered.
The GWU recently issued a directive for LESA officials not to issue traffic fines and tow away illegaly parked cars, amongst others. Talks that took place with the agency over a new collective agreement failed.
After being told that the agency will not be held responsible for any accidents that may occur as a result of the directive, the GWU intensified the industrial action on Tuesday.
Following such a directive, the Malta Developers’ Association complained that this has led to a situation where building development projects have had to stop because traffic cannot be diverted and roads cannot be closed.
In a Faceebok post on Friday, the GWU said that in the past few hours, developments have been made and the agency informed the union that a better financial package is being offered when compared to the previous one.
All directives that are currently active are temporarily suspended with effect from Friday 8 July.
The union will be evaluating the new financial package in the coming days and reaching out the concerned members.
