A man died after ending up on the rocks while attempting to dive into the sea, the police said.

The accident took place in Tigne, Sliema, on Sunday at 3.30pm.

The police said they were informed that a man was lying injured on the rocks after attempting to dive into the sea.

The man, 40, of Turkish nationality, and a resident in Sliema, was given first assistance before being taken to hospital.

The man was certified dead some time later.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli is leading an inquiry.
