PN laments further discrimination by 'partial PBS' news presentation

Nationalist Party Secretary General Michael Piccinino has written to the Public Broadcasting Services and the Broadcasting Authority due to what the party described as discrimination during evening news readings and “confusion” when reporting court cases involving PBS.

A court of law recently ruled in favour of the PN, saying that the party had been discriminated against by PBS.

But in reporting the judgment, PBS gave the impression that it had not been found guilty of this discrimination, the PN said, when the truth is completely opposite, Piccinino said.

In his letter to the Broadcasting Authority, Piccinino continued to stress the lack of balance between the time given to both parties. “The PN is disappointed on how the authority continues to ignore the abuse there is and refuses to address the issue as is stated by the constitution.”

“The Broadcasting Authority has to function as a safeguard to freedom of speech and has to do its role. Due to the lack of action by the authority, the PN has to seek other ways to obtain justice,” the PN said.
