Police said on Monday morning that members of its Rapid Intervention Unit went on site where a man was found on the ground, unconcious, and with stab wounds from a pointed weapon.

The victim was given medical assistance on site and taken to Mater Dei Hospital immediately. He suffered from four stab wounds in his chest and back, police said.

He was certified as dead soon after arrival in hospital.

The suspect was arrested in a street closeby soon after the victim was found.  The knife which was allegedly used in the murder was found in his posession.C

Communicating through an interpreter, Saeed said he has no place of residence. He works sporadically as a labourer.

Lawyer Jason Grima, appearing for the accused, said his client was entering a not guilty plea. In view of the fact that Saeed does not have a fixed address, no request for bail was made.

Prosecutors Anthony Vella and Ramon Bonett Sladden from the Office of the Attorney General assisted the police.
