Conference League: Gzira remain unbeaten after another solid display in Austria

Thursday, 4 August 2022, 06:44 Last update: about 3 years ago

Gzira United’s impressive European run continued yesterday in Klagenfurt Austria when the Maroons obtained a prestigious scroeless draw against Wolfsberger.

Gzira are still unbeaten in Europe this season and the result keeps Darren Abdilla’s side in the hunt for yet another qualification in the Conference League.

Gzira controlled the match with after another solid defensive performance.

In the first half Gzira shared the exchanges as the Austrians never found ways to move near Zarkov.

In the second half Wolfsberger as expected increased the pressure and the Maroons were pushed back in their own area.

In a rare break Maxuell beat the Austrian defence but his shot was well saved by Bonmann.

Zarkov’s only great save came near the end of the match when he dived to save a close range header from Ballo in Wolfsberger’s best chance of the match.

In the end the Maroons were in jubilation for this fifth successive positive result and now look forward for the return match at Ta’ Qali.
