Government photographer Kevin Abela passed away on Saturday at age 44.

Abela will be remembered as a loyal friend by all those who had the opportunity to work with him, the Department of Information said.

Several of Malta's top officials offered their condolences.

"I am truly saddened by the news of the loss of Mr Kevin Abela, a photographer within the Department of Information. I offer my sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues," President George Vella has said.

Prime Minister Robert Abela also offered his condolences to his family and friends, as did ministers and MPs.
