Former President and Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami left hospital on Saturday and has returned home.

In a post on Facebook, his son, Beppe, thanked everyone for their support, solidarity and prayers.

Eddie Fenech Adami had been hospitalised after he collapsed at his home in Friday morning, but was in stable condition at the hospital by that afternoon. He is now back home.

One of the political heavyweights of the second half of the 20th century, Fenech Adami served as Prime Minister between 1987 and 1996 and then against between 1998 and 2004, when he resigned as PN leader and Prime Minister after signing Malta's accession agreement to the European Union.

He served as the country's President between April 2004 and 2009.
