The Siggiewi Rowing Club participated in a fixed-seat rowing event on the Lago Maggiore, Pallanza Verbania [Italy] on Sunday, 14 August.

In a post on Facebook, the club said that it took part in the 48th edition of the Palio Remiero and in the first-ever Palio Internazionale in which it placed third.

"The Palio Remiero was established 50 years ago by Gruppo Difesa Tradizioni Piazza e Vila in Pallanza who since 1969 has created and organised a series of initiatives that upheld their love of Pallanza and its beautiful environs."

"The race combines rowing, swimming and rope climbing, including rowing of a 1.5 ton, 8-oar galleon-like boat for 250m, then turning back around a buoy for another 250m of rowing. The boat is then stopped to allow the coxswain to swim approximately 30m to shore, climb a 2-metre rope and catch the Pallanza flag to conclude the race."

Siggiewi Rowing Club thanked Gruppo Difesa Tradizioni Piazza e Vila and Federazione Italiana Canottaggio a Sedile Fisso for their invitation, organisation and hospitality.
