Ħamrun Spartans registered their second win of the campaign this time defeating Pieta Hotspurs in a one sided match played at the National Stadium.

The Spartans kept marching on in the recent brilliant form and after crushing champions Hibernians last week they found no difficulty in disposing of lowly Pieta Hotspurs.

This was the third defeat for Pieta after losing their first matches against Floriana and Valletta respectively. Surely they will hope for better days when they start playing against at par opposition.

It was Hamrun all the way who as expected started on the offensive and on 9 minutes Montebello tried a conclusion from close range but his shot just missed the target. Three minutes later the Spartans took the lead when off a Camenzuli cross from the left flank in came Jonny who slotted the ball home.

Hamrun kept on dictating matters and on 14 minutes a Domingos shot from the edge of the area was deflected into a corner. But in the 20th minute they doubled their lead. A Guillaumier shot was headed into the net by Elvis Mashike.

Pieta came into the picture for the first time in the 34th minute when an Ito corner was perfectly met by a Leonardi header which just missed out.

A minute later on the other end Jonny brought the best out of goalkeeper Jonny. And on 40 minutes off a Montebello cross from the left flank Elvis Mashike flicked inches wide.

For the second half Pieta made three substitutions which in the initial stages made some difference. In fact it was them who created the first chance of the second period when off a Yamaguchi cross a Bangura header was saved by Sanchez.

Hamrun went near on 68 minutes when Callegari headed just off the upright off a Fedele free-kick. Ten minutes from the end Pieta missed a glorious chance when Yamaguchi with only Sanchez to beat failed to do so.

And Hamrun could have added a third in the 84th minute when after Jorge Ailton Soares was brought down by Agius but from the penalty spot Soares hit the woodwork.
