The man who was seriously injured when a car caught fire in Valletta last Saturday has died in hospital, the police said.

The police said that it was informed that a car was ablaze in the Marsamxett area at around 9.15am.

The 41-year-old man, later named as Liam Vidal from Ta’ Xbiex, was found lying on the ground near the car when officers turned up,

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He died this morning, the police said.

Public broadcaster TVM reported later in the day that the police do not suspect that there were any other individuals involved in Vidal's death.
