Restoration works are being carried out on the Qrendi parish church. The project’s architect Amanda Degiovanni explained that the works include, among others, the replacement of stones and the restoration of the openings.

Restoration began because the main and secondary facades deteriorated over the years.

So far more than half of the restoration and conservation work on the façade of the Qrendi Parish Church is complete, a Department of Information statement said.

This project is being carried out with an investment of €84,000 of which 80% is financed by the European Fund for Regional Development.

Once all the works are finished, the parish church will include the route of historical and patrimonial heritage which is being financed under this project.

The Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds, Chris Bonett, visited the ongoing works which include the restoration of the façade of the side of the church and the sacristy.

Bonett said that this project is one of 33 restoration projects that are being carried out through Fondazzjoni għall-Patrimonju Kulturali tal-Arċidjoċesi ta’ Malta, with an investment of €4 million from European funds.

“The churches in Malta are part of the cultural heritage of our country. Therefore through this investment, conservation, protection and promotion of the ecclesiastical cultural heritage are being carried out while strengthening the tourist product for tourists who come to visit the historical heritage of our country,” said Bonett.

The parish priest of Qrendi, Fr Mario Said said that thanks to the European funds, the Church of Qrendi is benefiting from this project which will beautify the church and will serve, not only the Maltese but also tourists who visit Qrendi.
