Updated: National coach ‘relieved’ of duties for alleged breach of MFA policies

The Malta FA said Tuesday that Devis Mangia has been relieved temporarily of his duties as Head Coach of the National Teams following a report it received about alleged breach of its policies.

Mangia has given his full availability for the facts of the matter to be established, the MFA said in a statement on its website.

The association said will not comment any further until the next steps are discussed within the respective decision-making bodies in an open and transparent manner.

MaltaToday has reported that it is informed that Mangia was accused of improper sexual advances on one of the Malta national football team players.

The announcement of the suspension was made Tuesday morning, hours before the natiopnal team were due to play a friendly match against Israel at the Ta’ Qali stadium. 

For the match against Israel the team will be led by Assistant Coach Davide Mazzotta, the MFA said.

The MFA will be meeting to discuss the situation on Wednesday.

Mangia has been in charge of the national team for three years now and his contract expires in December 2023.
