The Labour Party on Saturday announced a new call for the LEAD programme which aims to further increase the participation of women in politics.

This will be the seventh group of the LEAD programme. In the first six calls, LEAD attracted many people to the party, all with different backgrounds, skills and thoughts and offered this unique experience for those who are taking the first step in a political career, the Labour Party said in a statement.

This was shown through the local council elections of 2019 where 80% of the participants who contested were elected, the party said.

The coordinator of the LEAD programme, Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, said that she is convinced that there are women out there inspired by the success of women who partook in the programme.

Deputy Leader of the PL Daniel Micallef said that the party is renewing and reforming itself through the programme, and that LEAD would like to see more women become part of decision making.

He said that the LEAD programme is another and important step for women to be at the forefront of decision making.

LEAD applications can be downloaded from the PL’s website at www.partitlaburista.org/lead and are open until 22 October 2022.
