After sudden closure yesterday, Mater Dei’s childcare centre has reopened - Fearne

Tuesday, 11 October 2022, 13:26 Last update: about 3 years ago

Health Minister Chris Fearne said that the Mater Dei childcare centre has been reopened – only a day after it was suddenly closed.

Some parents were left in the lurch about the situation when on Monday morning they took their children to the childcare as per usual, only to find it closed.

These parents were told that they needed to take their children and find an alternative place to keep them whilst they work.

Medical staff contacted by The Malta Independent stated their belief that the closure of the service was a result of a lack of funds.

Times of Malta meanwhile reported that a spokesperson for the health ministry said that the decision for the childcare centre’s closure was an administrative one but that the ministry is looking into it.

Upon discovering what happened the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses wrote to the Hearth Minister Chris Fearne, asking for an explanation for the decision taken.

Before the cabinet meeting started on Tuesday morning, when responding to a question Fearne said that the Mater Dei childcare centre has reopened, however, did not elaborate further.
